MAASAI MARA NATIONAL PARK

– “Land of grassy plains and rolling hills“–

Masai Mara National Reserve is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves and it is one of the best known and most popular reserves. The reserve shares an ecosystem with Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The ecosystem hosts over 95 animal species including large herds of elephant and buffalo meandering the plains, hippo in the Mara brown rivers, Masai giraffe, zebra, and plenty of Nile crocodiles in the Mara River. It’s a perfect place for game drives, with a huge abundance of wildlife. Seasoned safari travelers, writers, documentary makers, and researchers will admit Masai Mara is their favorite spot for a safari in Kenya.

The Great Wildebeest Migration

Considered the greatest reserve in Africa, Masai Mara prides itself on the breathtaking spectacle of the greatest wildlife show on earth known, the wildebeest migration between the Mara and Serengeti ecosystems. Between June and October, Masai Mara National Park is at its most spectacular as one million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 gazelles travel through on their way to the Serengeti in Tanzania. As they trek across the plains, they will cross the Mara and Talek rivers that are infested with hippos and crocodiles. In droves, they plunge into the rivers with currents and have to fight with the waiting crocodiles and hippos. Only the successful make to another side while others fall prey.

Home of the Big Cats

With an abundance of herbivore, Masai Mara makes ideal hunting grounds for predators and therefore home to the famous ‘Big cats’. The lions, leopards, and cheetah can be spotted easily. Othe predators are hyena and jackals.
